Title Not Included

Oh my. Well happy Halloween, I guess. I should tell you first off that I am not a fan of the Halloween. It seemed a bit better when free candy was involved, but walking block after block in the usually freezing cold just to get a few tiger pops and some rockets didn’t really seem worth it by the end of the night.

Our office has gone a little goofy with the Halloween hijinks. After the long, hard week we all seemed to have, it has been somewhat fun to scare people with fake spiders or skeletons. We have already eaten our weight in candy and cupcakes, and the ladies have devoured two bags of candy corn just this morning! (Really, candy corn?!?) The morning has gone by quickly, and only small smatterings of work have been accomplished, just what we all needed.

Tonight is our ward Halloween Party/ YSA dance. I have spent the past three years dressing up as “Hot Girl With Wings” but I foolishly got rid of my wings when Jenny and I moved earlier this year. I searched the well picked over city for a new costume or some replacement wings but only found a playboy bunny or naughty nurse costume. Shaking my head at both suggestions, I have decided to attend our Halloween fete as “Miss Victoria Park” which, yes, I understand isn’t really a costume considering I already won the title.

Last night was our 727 reunion. Multiple years ago now, there use to be the one house in the ward that everyone wanted to live at, the 727 house. Eight of us crammed into a tiny house that should have long since been demolished. We hosted lavish parties, entertained countless boys, ate a lot of cake and laughed even more. It was always busy, always noisy but always fun. It was the perfect place to be at the time.

Most of us had moved away, gotten married and even had a few kids, so I organized a reunion. We went out for dinner, told a few stories, and laughed at all of our favourite memories of each other, but something had changed.

Seeing as I was one of the only single girls left, we also spent time discussing teething, potty training tactics and various other aspects of family life. I realized we had nothing left in common. No one wanted to hear about my YSA mishaps, and I certainly didn’t want to hear about changing diapers.

I left dinner somewhat disappointed, how naive I was to think things wouldn’t change in all the time we have spent apart. I ran to Book Club to realize I should be grateful for the friends I have at the moment. While I have had some wonderful friends in the past, it is really those in the present that matter right now. So thanks girls, lets hope that Book Club never disbands.

Trying to get it everything finished. There is just so much left to do both at work and away from it. Bracing for an busy weekend and even busier next week.

A visit to our Tawny dog this weekend.

Just waiting.

Disappointing To Me As Well

Well, you sure don’t win blog awards not writing, now do you? Sorry everyone. A whole week without an update, what was I thinking! I haven’t been extra busy, or lying in a ditch somewhere, I have seriously just been lazy.

So, sadly, today is more questions. And only because I am sure you don’t want to hear about the days Jenny and I sat in front of the TV watching the third season of How I Met Your Mother or how the Internet Boyfriend has seemed to find a new Internet Girlfriend. (He just lost an awesome date to Preference.) or even all about our hilarious reading of The Fascinating Girl at Book Club.

Enjoy!

Last Movie I Saw In A Movie Theater?: Oh gosh. I hate movie theatres so much that I rarely go to movies. (Well, unless a cute boy is asking) I can't sit still for that long. I don't understand why it has to be so dark and so loud. And popcorn gets really boring after a while.

But to answer the question, maybe Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, way back in August!

What Book Are You Reading? Our book club is reading Sherlock Holmes for October. It is a quick read and it has pictures scattered throughout. I am still wanting to finish Gone With The Wind, but I barely make time to finish our current reads.

Favorite Board Game? Trains (Or Ticket To Ride, by it's proper name), when I miss Eric (Which seems to be all the time now.) or Trivial Pursuit.

Favorite Magazine? Real Simple. (The cover alone sucks me in every month!)

Favorite Smells? So Pink perfume from Gap, Boys, and the lemon basil candle Jenny has in our living room.

Favorite Sounds? The Beatles, James Taylor, Sondre Lerche, Michael Buble and any other soothing music on my iPod.

Worst Feeling In The World? Being alone, paranoia and that stomach twisting feeling right before you are about to throw up.

First Thing You Think of When You Wake? I try not to think, that is why I listen to the lame radio chatter for about half an hour before I get out of bed.

Favorite Fast Food Place? A&W

Future Child’s Name? This question seems like a HUGE jinx, so I am refusing to answer.

Finish This Statement—“If I Had a Lot of Money,” I would make the greatest documentary ever!

Do You Drive Fast? It depends on how much I want to get wherever I am going, or what song I am listening to.

Favorite place you have visited? San Fransisco

Storms—cool or scary? I don't mind them. The Canada Day rainstorm was awesome! But the tornado we had a few years ago, not so awesome. And well, blizzards are never that cool.

What Was Your First Car? Still the same awesome one I am driving seven years later, 1992 Mercury Topaz.

Favorite Drink? Low Acid Apple Juice.

Finish This Statement—“If I Had the Time, I Would…” clean my room.

Do You Eat the Stems on Broccoli? To be honest, I think they are the best part of broccoli.

If You could Dye your Hair Any Other Color, What Would It Be? Becoming a brunette was the best decision I ever made.

Favorite Sport to Watch? The Tournament of Hearts was SO hilarious. Curling is a fun sport to cheer at.

What’s Under Your Bed? Nothing! Can you believe it!

Morning Person or Night Owl? Way too much of a night owl. It is too hard to go to bed at night.

Over Easy or Sunny Side Up? I am passing on eggs these days.

Favorite Place to Relax? Mocha Cabana, but we never go there anymore.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor? Pralines and Cream, Nuttin' Better or just vanilla.

Hoping to knock it out of the park this week, in more ways than one.

Heaven knows I need more than just good luck for that to occur.

You Really Can’t Write This Stuff

Happy Blogiversary! I didn’t realize until late Friday afternoon that three years have now gone by since I started sharing my days in my life. After a few quick calculations, I realize in just a short year I have written 177 new entries, which crazily works out to approximately 14.75 post a month, 3.69 posts a week. I have been busy!

To say that the weekend was crazy would be a huge understatement. Huge! But thankfully we all survived, although I am not sure all of us caught up on our sleep, yet.

I got home on Friday with just enough time to pack before we headed out for the RS retreat. With only ten of us attending, we were all looking forward to a quiet night listening to how our Bishop and his wife met, as they were spending Friday evening with us, when all of the sudden, without much warning, everything went pretty haywire.

Now I don’t have any sisters, but I have been to Young Women’s Camp and have seen the effects of too much estrogen in a room. Without warning, one of the girls started crying, telling all of us about how much she doesn’t want to go to church anymore because no one ever talks to her. The rest of us, wondering what sparked this new topic, tried to make this girl feel better and offered suggestions as to what she could do to enjoy church more, but none of it seemed to help. The conversation dragged on for hours, and by the time the Bishop left, all of us were exhausted from the impromptu intervention that had just occurred.

By the morning things had somewhat returned to normal, however, I am requesting a retreat do over. I left my stress free home only to retreat to insanity. It was anything but relaxing. We did have some fun in the interim, compounding with the little to no sleep, a quasi-frustrating class in how to crochet and more food then any of us ever wanted. I think I at least need another weekend to recover.

A big thanks to Amy who insisted I watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog. I had heard about it months ago, however, had never made time to actually watch it. My love for Neil Patrick Harris seriously grows everyday. What a great way to round out an already bizarre weekend.

Thanks to Book Club for making things happen.

Good Luck with this next week.

Of All The Gin Joints

Thanks to all of you who enjoyed yesterday’s messy post of my inner psyche. I made it using Wordle, (Kudos to whomever figured that out. Next time just use your real name though.) Make your own wordle or check out the gallery.

Yesterday was our first ward temple night of the “new year”. Between my expired temple recommend and work schedule making it nearly impossible to go, I decided that I would try extra hard to attend this month. I literally had to push people out of my way, and drive well over the speed limit to make it to the church in time to leave, but you know what, it was well worth the effort.

If anything, it was an excellent chance to catch up with old friends, meet new people and have a good laugh or two. Thanks to everyone who made the night that much fun.

Tonight, is our Relief Society Retreat. Our Relief Society went camping together last summer (I will admit the breakfast bagels were amazing), but thankfully, this year we are staying indoors. So, tonight is another night of racing home from work with just enough time to finish packing before heading out to our mountain cabin. But I am looking forward to eating our weight in wine gums again (what a mistake that was last year) and listening to more scandalizing stories.

The weekend is looking pretty promising.

Thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement.

Delightfully content.

More Than Just A Flash In The Pan

Hi.

Sorry I haven’t been updating you all as much as I probably should. It seems as if there really isn’t anything blog-worthy to discuss. Life seems to be headed on a straight course, and the weeks pass by with the same outings, conversations and events. But I guess life really is just full of mundane moments, and not every day or week can be full of excitement.

My long Thanksgiving weekend came and went. It was quiet and half lonely as Jenny had spent the weekend with her family. The house really becomes eerily quiet with just one person at home.

But I did vote today! Our Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, called an election and thirty-six days later I entered the Junior High only a few blocks from our house to cast my ballot.

Now, I have talked about voting before. And true to form, this time turned out just as lame as the other times I have voted. Everything from the recycled paper ballots, to the flimsy cardboard partition and golf pencils screamed mundane.

Where was the excitement, where was the enthusiasm, where was the burst of national pride?

Maybe me and my “Entertain Me” generation don’t quite appreciate the simplicity of our voting process, but seriously, we could do so much better.

I am volunteering next election, and bringing some much needed excitement to the whole process! Maybe Elections Canada just needs a breath of fresh air.

So, go and vote today if you haven’t already. Maybe your polling station will be more exciting.

Thankful for a short week.
Still crossing my fingers, but refusing to hold my breath.

Good Luck.

Wishing I Had Worn Cuter Pajamas

Last night Jenny and I ran a few errands, picked up some new DVDs and of course, juice, ate way too much licorice, and actually decided to go to bed half early. I quickly fell asleep and was in the middle of a stupid dream when I heard a strange noise. Thinking it was just part of my dream, I tried to just fall back asleep, that was until Jenny knocked on my door.

It was only then that I realized that the firm alarm was going off in the hallway of the building. Jenny and I grabbed our jackets and headed outside. Once outside we went to the front of the building, and found ourselves alone. No one else, not one person from our four-story apartment building, had exited the building.

Confused and cold, Jenny and I waited in my car for the loud fire alarm to stop. The fire trucks never came, and no one else from the building ever came outside, so I guess Jenny and I weren’t really in danger. Finally, the alarm was turned off and Jenny and I headed back inside. Shortly after 4:00am, I found my way back to my still warm cocoon of blankets and pillows.

A big thanks to Jenny for saving my life from no apparent danger.

Keeping My Cards Close

By now, I am sure you have noted that Jenny and I do not have anything resembling good cable. We sadly catch up on all of our favourite shows, How I Met Your Mother or The Office, huddled around the computer. We excitedly anticipate new seasons on DVD to catch any episodes we might have missed.

So last night I picked up a few groceries and treats for Jenny and I, and also found a new TV series to watch, Samantha Who. I didn’t know too much about the show, but I was intrigued and hoped that my choice would turn out as good as Bones or How I Met Your Mother, and not like Dead Like Me, which was the last impromptu TV DVD purchase we made that fell more that flat.

Much to our relief, Samantha Who seemed to be great choice. Combining all the characteristics that Jenny and I look for in a series, it seemed smart, funny and sassy. We watched three episodes, looking forward to the rest of the season.

Kind of similar to 13 going 30, Samantha Who is about a girl who has amnesia and is trying to find out who she is, where she works, and exactly what happened in her life before the amnesia. If you are looking for a new show to get into, try this quasi girlie program.

Nothing else of much excitement to announce. I went to FHE last night only to miss the fun craziness of Ashley planned activities. I enjoyed our time spent making movies, creating lyrical dances, winning beauty competitions and learning all the skills required to be a ninja, rather than our recent activities of playing soccer, ultimate frisbee and, like we did last night, watch the boys play basketball.

Sadly, I learned a little late that the focus of FHE this year was sports, and for a non-athletic girlie girl like myself, I can’t imagine anything worse. But I still plan on attending if only to cheer my family on to victory. I have been alive long enough in the world to know that I am no assistance to my team when it comes to any sport.

Still staying positive. Looking forward to more Samantha Who tonight. Keeping my hair nicely backcombed and now, I’m just waiting.

Out Of Order

Hey, I’m back! Did you all miss me?

My family, friends and coworkers spent last week passing a cold around, and I ended up sounding like a 60-year-old chain smoker. But I am feeling pretty good and definitely looking pretty good today. Just four and half more days until another long weekend!

Let’s see, what has been going on.

Friday night our ward had a potluck. I am not fond of the potluck, it always seems to be mystery food being served. It is my hope one day that no one bringing food to the potluck will bring a main dish and it will turn into an accidental dessert potluck. But sadly, that never happens.

But more important that any of the food that was brought on Friday night, I was again able to have another real-life conversation with the internet boyfriend. He doesn’t say much. (Which is probably good, considering I say too much). I regaled him with all of my best stories; Bread Dog, Shirtless Weightlifter, Orange Truck/Orange Hair, needless to say, I brought my A game. The night ended with a good old Victoria Park Clap, and it once again felt like the glory days.

I will say one more thing about my internet boyfriend. He told me last night he went to the dance on Friday, thinking I would be there. Sadly, there is still so much that he needs to learn about me.

Brent and Jen and of course Tawny came to Lethbridge for General Conference, and we celebrated Thanksgiving early. We thankfully, finally heard from Eric, who seems to be doing better than ever.

I was tagged by Mandy in her questions a few weeks ago, and I still haven’t gotten around to completing the answers. So here you go! Enjoy!

Four things I love about my husband:
- His ability to speak six different languages
- He loves The Beatles even more than I do!
-He still thinks every story I tell is better than the first time he heard it
-He realizes that every day without me is sad and lonely.

Four movies that I would watch more then once:
-Dan In Real Life
- Robin Hood
- Singin’ In The Rain
-Kissing Jessica Stein

Four TV shows I watch:
-The Office
-How I Met Your Mother
-Bones
-Horrible “reality” shows on MTV

Four places I have been:
-Seattle
-San Francisco
-Washington DC
-Minneapolis

Four places I would like to go (that I haven't been yet):
-Winnipeg
-Toronto
-Iowa
-PEI

Four people who regularly email me:
-Does anyone email anymore?
-The Bishop
-eHow of the Day
-Elder Garner

Four things I would like to eat:
-Hershey Kisses
-Steak
-“Mexican Pouches of Delight” and Lemonade Slush
-Spinach Artichoke Dip at Mocha

Four things I look forward to in the next year:
-My Ten Year YSA anniversary! (I think there should be a party)
- Nephew or Niece
-Fourth Annual Denise Garner Apple Taste Test
-Another year of the Three Mustakeers!

So far, so good. Trying to stay in the moment. Having faith. Being positive.

The Least You Could Do

I think I am in the beginning stages of developing an awesome chest cold! Who is excited for that! Jenny teasingly advised me to just drink more water; a book she found not too long ago, attributed dehydration as the leading cause of illness in the world today. I might take up the suggestion, if only I wasn’t so afraid of the bathroom at the office.

I did end up going to the Corn Maze on Monday night. Thankfully it wasn’t as bad as past years. Undoubtedly, every year, people hide in the corn to only jump out and scare, well, at least me, senseless. The whole place stresses me out as I have to be on pins and needles around every corner and turn. But thankfully this year, only impatient people tried this trick, and as a result, they were not that successful in waiting for the right moment. Needless to say, it wasn’t all that scary, much like both of the haunted houses at Lagoon. (Did we ever figure out why there is a mining shaft in Dracula’s Castle?)

Thanks to the girls for all of your help. I was able to have a few chances for real life, in person conversations with my Internet Boyfriend. And, pretty soon, if the right cards as played, we can stop referring to him as the Internet Boyfriend.

Over the years, You Tube has provided us hours of entertainment, from Planet Unicorn to Emo Roadtrip and even the David Blaine spoofs, You Tube parties at our house are not uncommon.

But over the past week, You Tube has gotten that much better as I have found full episodes of Student Bodies! Student Bodies is the Canadian equivalent to Saved By The Bell. (I previously mentioned it here.) If you were at all interested in any ‘90s “teen” shows, like Breaker High, City Guys, Hang Time or California Dreaming, you will be just in love with Student Bodies.

Yes, you do have to suffer through the somewhat lame first season to really appreciate the second and third, but it will be well worth it. So take a look, I am sure you will love it! I only wish Eric was here to appreciate my find.

As optimistic as I was for only good things to occur in September, I am even more optimistic about October. And in September’s defence, it really didn’t disappoint in terms of increasing my story count. So now I have 31 days to do more than just hold my breath and cross my fingers. This has to work sometime, doesn’t it?

Good Luck.
As Always,
