You know what I realized the other day? I’ve had the same e-mail address for at least 10 years. I closed my eyes and tried to think back to when I opened my e-mail account. I know that I use to send emails to my friends from our high school library, only weeks before large signs were put near the computers stating, “Internet not very personal use.” And considering that I attended high school back in the 1900s, it has been at least ten years that I have been sending and receiving email from that account.

My inbox is pretty full. Every once and a while I clean it out, filing important emails into various email folders. After a quick check I saw that that the earliest email I had saved was from September 2000. I have all the emails sent from my younger brother’s mission, and all the emails from my older brother’s mission (back when missionaries didn’t email home every week) I’ve got planning emails from when I was the Relief Society president, arrangements of Preferences gone by and emails I sent to friends when I had boring summer jobs. I have emails from high school friends, and college friends and even my celebrity friends like The Tragically Hip and Odd Todd. Emails from guys I had crushes on, the email I sent declaring my undying love for a guy, and I even saved the ‘you’ve been dumped’ email I received.

If you’ve ever written an awesome/fun/cute comment on here, chances are that I saved the e-mail I got saying I had a comment.

Poor email has taken a back seat in our communication world, what with Facebook, text messages and instant messages. My inbox isn’t as busy as it once was. It seems today that it is only littered with online specials and various newsletters I have signed up for. A few years ago I opened up a reputable email account that sends me boring online bill payment reminders and service requests for my car. (Note: If you are still sending important emails to your accountant or lawyer from your 2hott4u@mail.com* email account, it’s probably time you get your own respectable email address.) *I wonder who’s email address that is?

But you know it is nice to look back at all of those saved emails. I like to think they  are there to remind me how far I’ve come.

I do recruitment at high schools for Utah State University and the kids fill out these cards and you would be surprised the crazy emails that are real accounts people not only have BUT ALSO GIVE OUT!! I must confess though, my first email account was: oldnavykid101@yahoo.com back in 2002, but I didn't give it OUT to anyone.
Point being...Thank you for your call to action! :)
