More Than Just A Thursday

Considering that this blog has an international readership, I thought I would take today, Canada Day, to share with you all why Canada is pretty awesome.

Poutine

Fries are good. Cheese is good. Gravy is good. Combine them all and you get one tasty treat. Thanks Canada! You are a pretty good cook.

The Metric System

Now I know some of you are rolling your eyes complaining how difficult the metric system is to learn and use, but it is really easy! If you want to convert something all you need to do is add and subtract zeros. No calculators needed. There are 1,000 meters in a kilometer and without complicated calculations I can figure out that there are 100,000 centimeters in a kilometer. Are you curious how many hectares are in a kilometer? Just subtract a few zeros. 100 hectares in a kilometer. See! Not complicated at all.

Temperature is even easier. The higher the number the hotter it is. Anything with a negative in front of it is pretty cold. Water boils at 100*C. Water freezes at 0*C.

Awesome Money

Does your five dollar bill have kids playing hockey on it? Mine does! Is your ten dollar bill purple? Yup! And thanks to a two dollar coin and a one dollar coin you can have a little fortune with a fist full of change.

French and English

Everything we buy, everything, comes with both French and English written on the package. Reading the cereal box at breakfast has now just become twice as long! How did you think I learned that pamplemousse is grapefruit in French?

Extra Letters

We Canadians like to add extra letters to our words like neighbour and colour. If you feel like your writing is missing some pizazz, it's probably a 'u' you are are missing.

I've only scratched the surface with how awesome Canada really is. Come give Canada a visit or two, you'll love it. I promise!

Happy Canada Day, no matter where you are.

As Always,
