Long Ago and Far Away

Remember the calendar that is hanging at my workstation? (It’s more than a desk, but less than an office. Like a cubical, but without the walls.) Instead of showing all of the UK Bank Holidays or even the moon cycle (why do we need to know about the moon every month?) my calendar has funny things to do through out the month or important days to celebrate, like Fudge Day (June 16, if you are planning on celebrating.) So today’s fun thing is ‘Listen To Your Favorite Songs From 1998’ I’m not exactly sure why 1998 was the year chosen, but it was fun to do a little research and remember songs from days gone by.

In 1998 I was 17 years old. (Please don’t do the math to figure out my age now. It will only make you sad.) MTV has recently come out with a show called ‘When I was 17…’ where celebrities talk about what they were doing when they were 17. When I was 17, I was just finishing Grade11, a less than stellar year for me academically. I spent that summer serving a whole lot of root beer at A&W, and returned to Grade 12 with a full schedule. I took Math 30 twice and had a crush or two on a couple of guys in Grade 11. (Which was frowned upon by all of my friends.) I listened to The Beatles and in an effort to catch up on retro music my friends got into ABBA. I went to prom and only a few weeks before I turned 18, fake graduated from High School. (We still had finals to do.) Seventeen, and 1998 seems like more than a life ago. Strange how much things can change in just 12 short-ish years.

So to celebrate this sunny Friday, here are some of my favourite songs from 1998. Enjoy!

Share some of your favourite songs from 1998, or whenever you were 17.

Good luck to us all. At least the weekend is only hours away.

As Always,

I find it slightly amusing that I have all those songs on my ipod :)
