Just Call Me A Wildcard

Hey Everyone! Were you waiting with breath baited for an update from holidays, because if you were, here it is, take a deep breath. Hope you are excited.

For everyone who doesn't know, I am on "vacation" in Utah. I know that doesn't sound overly exciting, but the purpose of the trip is really to take my brother to the MTC for his mission. (How did the time run out so fast! He leaves tomorrow!)

For a Canadian like myself, especially a Canadian who has experienced a relatively rainy summer, it is hot here. Really hot! Yesterday the temperature hit 101 degrees, which for my Celsius friends is about 40. Last night the night time low was 28 degrees! That is a Canadian daytime high and not a night time low. But I hopefully I will acclimatise by the time we get home and will be happy with the low thirty temperatures.

So, you are never going to believe it, but somehow on this trip I got brave. I don't know if the hot temperatures have affected my judgement or what, but let me illustrate my imparedness.

On Monday afternoon, my family and I went to Lagoon, a local amusement park similar to Calaway Park, and actually rode on two roller coasters! All of my friends who went to Whoop Up Days with me will understand how much I really don't do scary rides. One of the roller coasters was an old wooden one that I was sure would fall down at any moment as it shook during the whole ride. I actually agreed to go on a third roller coaster, but the line was too long for the amount of time we had left. No, I have not developed a love of thrill rides. I don't know what I was thinking.

The second story of craziness happened just this afternoon. As my family went to the temple, I wandered Temple Square alone. I visited the Seagull Monument in memory of our last trip and realized just how unfun the Reflecting Pool was by yourself. But the best part of the day came as my family and I waited to eat lunch at a restaurant in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, I noticed Elder Robert D. Hales walk into the restaurant. We ate our lunch and as Elder Hales began walking out of the restaurant, I stood up and introduced myself to the apostle and then introduced him to my missionary brother. He talked to my brother about his mission and then came over to meet the rest of our table!

After he left, I realized just exactly what I had done, and who's day I had interrupted. I couldn't believe that I had been that brave! I don't like asking people in stores for help, how did I tie up an apostle's time? A few minutes after our new friend had left, he came back with another family in tow, and surprisingly it was another family with a missionary going to the Dominican Republic!
So tomorrow is the big day as we send Eric off to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know he will do a fantastic job, and as much as we will miss him, it will be amazing to have another missionary in the family. Good luck and God speed, Elder Garner.

Hopefully more exciting updates to come.

Thankful for all that I have. Enjoying my time with my family.

As Always,

The real question is...did you get his autograph?

Oh wow, that's brave for sure! I don't think I would or could ever do that, I'd feel like I was bugging them too much. I think you did it because of your brother, so hey that is way good!
I honestly thought you were going to tell us you like asked some guy out on a date while you were there.
