Hello and a happy Mardi Gras (or Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day, according to my calendar) from my now warm office. We finally got some heat back in the late afternoon yesterday, and our office made it all the way to a balmy 12 degrees. Today we have the heat going full steam to compensate for yesterday’s disaster. If anything it might be a bit too warm in here, but I am not going to complain, just maybe fall asleep at my desk.
Every once and a while, I like to go back to old blog entries and figure out what we were doing a year ago, two years ago. Quite often, I am the oracle in which people turn to remember when past event occurred. If it was even a quasi-monumental moment, chances are that I wrote about it on my blog.
So today, I thought I would indulge you all in This Day In Denise History:
Let’s flip just one short year ago: 2007
I pretended to play dodge ball and some of you broke your ankle.
More importantly, Flick and I became authors. “Punch Hinkson and The Third Street Mystery Gang: Case of Christina’s Engagement.” I re-read it the other day, and although not one of the characters in the book is still in our ward, it is still the funniest thing I have ever read.
How about two years ago: 2006
Only a short day after the Pittsburg Steelers won the Superbowl, I had an awkward conversation/breakup at Tim Horton’s, of all places!
We were living on the Northside and things were going well. By this time, we had finally gotten rid of all of the merry-go-round boys we had at the 727 house. We only had a few months of peace until we had to deal with the “Let’s Not Be Awkward” situation of BM.
All the way from the old blog: 2005
Date Box! I know! I was really excited to re-read all the fun and excitement of my one and very only date with Mr. Richards.
What about this one: 2004
For reason’s unknown, I didn’t keep a blog in 2004, which kinda makes me sad. I will never know what happened that year. For all I know February 5, 2004 could have been one of the greatest days of my life.
A whole five years ago: 2003
Oh yes, the Sweethearts muddle.
February of 2003, I was sweet twenty-one year old. At the time I was still living with my grandparents, and I remember quite well as everyone, including my aunt, uncle and cousins hung around as I got the phone call.
Sadly, some not so awesome guy called to ask me to go to Sweethearts with him. (You should understand this guy was the equivalent of our current Joseph) My heart kinda sank as I agreed to go with him.
A few days before Sweethearts, this guy called back and said, “The girl I really wanted to go with can go now, so I don’t need you to go with me anymore.” Relieved, I waited for someone else to call to ask me to the big event, but no one ever called, so I went home early for Reading Week.
When I got back into town, one of the guys I was friends with asked me how Sweethearts with so and so went. I relayed the whole story about being dumped before the dance. My friend started laughing, and told me how this guy had stood up in Priesthood meeting and said, “I am asking Denise, so no one else ask her.” I was mortified! My friends went on to say that he had planned on asking me, but couldn’t since this other guy had made such a bold statement.
Oh my, who knew that February 5 was such as historic day! Thank goodness for almost five years of blogging!
Thanks for a strangely fun night last night. And a congratulations to both of us for being on our best behaviors. It was some sort of odd swan song.
Here’s hoping today makes it in the history books.
Lots of Love.

I have not heard this 2003 story! I need to. Who was this guy? And he really got up in Priesthood and announced that? Wow, someone seriously needs to put a tape recorder in there!!
