Gratifying and Grateful

Hey! It’s leap year day! I have decided that if there is one day to throw caution to the wind, it is today. Whatever happens today doesn’t count because it is just made up day. (Just know that in my mind, I am celebrating March 1st today.)

A special thanks to all of you who read this odd narrative. When I sit in my office and try to think of exciting news to write, I never actually think that people are going to read it. But every once and a while, little glimpses of the fact that you are actually reading show up. You really don’t know how much it means to me. A read author is a happy author, even if it is just their mom that is reading their work. (Hi Mom!)

Let me tell you a little bit about me and my eccentric friends. I have been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time with them this week. You would think that the more time spent with someone, the more annoyed you might become, but strangely it seems to be quite the opposite.

I would have to say my favourite part of my friends is our acronym usage. I don’t think that we ever really speak in full sentences. Everything from FHE to BTF, JTW to RDD. It is fast, quasi private and let’s not forget funny.

A program I was watching stated that due to rampant text messages, instant messaging, facebookin’ and other forms of like communication, more and more kids and young adult are relying on acronyms as forms of communication, and as a result, spelling, grammar and any former knowledge of proper English has suffered. In fact, this show went on, they are beginning to continue spelling and grammar in High School English courses. (Aren’t we just glad we got out before?)

Now, I don’t really see this becoming a problem in my life, because on the flip side of my acronym life, I do work as a legal assistant, wherein, if one word will do justice, three or four words would be much better. Legal jargon and phrasing has over taken my unpaid hours. I said “in the interim” the other day, and was heavily mocked by non-barrister friends.

I am somewhat nervous about the quality of books in the future. I don’t want to think of 50 Cent as a literary mastermind. (Yup, he wrote a book, and it is good. 8!)

Thankful to have the weekend away from the office. Work hasn’t been difficult this week, just long.

So looking forward to the Waffle Party for BTF.

But mostly just waiting to find out what mess we can get ourselves in and out of this weekend.

Thanks for everything and really nothing.

Lots of love.
