You’d Say I’m Putting You On

When I got into work this morning, one of my coworkers came scampering up to me and with a huge grin said, “So do you feel any older today?” I looked her up and down and slowly replied, “Nope, not today.” (There is no wonder why they hate me at my office.)

She proceeded to rattle on about how sad she was that it was a grey day and hopefully my birthday plans weren’t ruined because of the rain. And how she always wanted a birthday in the summer. I wasn’t listening to about half of the conversation, I just stood there and nodded my head.

I guess I didn’t have the heart to tell her.

My birthday is tomorrow.

So here on my last day of being a quarter of a century old, I thought I would give you a list of defining moments of this year. I am sure that as time goes on, some of these memories won’t be as important as others, but all in all these events made 25 what is was.

I was once told that life starts at 25, so hopefully this next year is even better than the last.

My Grandpa’s Funeral: Proof that death is not the end of the world, but rather a good time with your family. I know that sounds awful, but I know it is just what my grandpa would have wanted.

Moving: Becoming part of the 14th Avenue Club. A great place to live.

Thunder in the Valley: To tell you the truth, I had never been to the Crowsnest Pass before I had to drive out for Thunder in the Valley. Wonderful summer memory, with tales to tell for a while yet.

Miss Victoria Park: To date, still my greatest accomplishment!

A New Job: A departure from the slack days at Budget. I now wear sweater vests to work, and know what an Originating Notice of Motion is. When did I become a grown up?

Brent and Jen’s Wedding: It’s not everyday that your brother gets married. Nor everyday that you get a famous sister in law!

Fall Ball: Fun and easy. Proof that boys really can step it up when they need to.

Preference: Horrible and complicated. Proof that girls shouldn’t be in charge of any date.

Weekday Eve: While they might not be as formal as they once were. Sunday nights are still some of my favourite times.

A Year In The Life: A CD that really defines me and what 2006 was. Joy to make. Emo to listen to. Sorry.

Newport Living: I understand that I am not a 13 year old, emo kid, but I think this song sums up 2007 pretty well.

Relief Society:
I am still sad about this. But thanks to presidencies both new and old. Relief Society has never been better.

Brunette: The saying goes that blondes have more fun, but I would like to challenge that. Being a brunette has been the greatest six months of my life.

A Broken Ankle: I understand that it wasn’t my ankle, but I have never been more proud of Vic Park. Plus, I made a pretty hot Handibus driver. And it was nice to be relied on, that is when you weren’t being stubborn.

Apple Taste Test: I have never looked at apples the same again. And I am proud to think I have turned all my friends into apple snobs as well.

General Conference: We did it! The whole time we were driving there, I just kept thinking, I can’t believe we are doing this. A wonderful time with some wonderful people.

Here’s to:

Hoping this is a quality post, and not…oh, what did you call it…the “mindless dribble” I usually write. Be careful with your words. I will remember.

A weird, OC-like change in events. What is going on with you?

Being one year older and hopefully wiser too.

Here’s to 26.
