Another Evening Show

Sorry that is has been so long since I have last talk to all of you. But at least I have some half interesting stories to entertain you all with.

Spring snowstorms are nothing new around here, however, yesterday we were hit with a big one. The snow/rain started on Tuesday and didn’t let up until half way through Wednesday, which turned the city into a wet mess of heavy Slurpee, and all without the cherry syrup.

The power was out at our house, but I got ready enough and went out to brush off my snow-covered car in the wet snow. Forty minutes later, after a lot of work, I finally got my car clear and powered through the deep ruts and slowly made my way on ice/puddle covered roads to the office. As it turned out, the power outage was city wide, and none traffic lights worked, making an already dicey driving situation worse. By the time I got to the office everything was closed up and work was cancelled for the day. We were all excited for the day off and made our ways slowly home. However, I returned home, soaking wet, freezing cold and without electricity. You don’t realize how much of your life requires electricity until you don’t have it for most of the day.

The snow stopped later on in the morning and by the afternoon electricity was once again restored to our house. The day warmed up considerably and the storm that, only a few hours earlier had shut down an entire city, was now only giant puddles in the street. To come to town today, you would have no idea that the whole city came to a standstill yesterday. We all came to work today, each of us telling our horror stories and now have a busy day ahead with all of yesterday’s work still left to complete.

At least it was an adventure, and in the end we did get the day off work. If only we had known on Tuesday night, we could have at least slept in and waited inside our dry homes for our cars to defrost on their own.

I had wanted to tell you yesterday about the Peter Katz show that sadly most of you missed out on, but without internet or even electricity, you had to wait until today. With a lot of begging, crying and promoting, we actually had a fair number of people attend the show. We got there early enough, found somewhere to sit and waited impatiently for the show, when Peter came up to our table and said, “Are you Denise?” A whole table of mouths fell open, and I nodded that I was. Peter admitted that we were Twitter friends and that he was excited that a whole gang of soon to be fans were in attendance.

After suffering though a lame opening performance, we finally got to the main event and were entertained by Peter. I am pretty sure that even those people who came to see the other acts gained a new appreciation for Peter. Between sets and even after the show, a long line had formed with people waiting to talk to Peter and to buy his CD. Peter and I talked again after the show about our favourite Elder Garner. We exchanged last minute hugs, and I wished him safe travels. (I was incredibly grateful that he wasn’t stuck in yesterday’s mess) Peter hoped to be coming back to town in the fall and I am sure that I am not alone in excitedly counting the days until we can meet up with our musical friend (and listen, yet again, with our favourite return missionaries!)

I’ll continue to say it: To see Peter live is to become a believer. Please take advantage of any opportunity you have to catch a show near you. I promise you won’t be sorry. Fear not, there are always his fantastic albums if you have to wait until the next tour to meet Peter. Available on iTunes worldwide! (Come on, just get them already!)

Thanks Peter for yet another wonderful show!

Missing you all terribly. Looking forward to the weekend and, fingers crossed, all of the hijinks I can find.

As Always,
