Greeting from the house! I know, it has been a long while since I actually wrote a blog from my home, and I can't even remember the last time I actually composed a post in blogger and not in Microsoft Word first, but I thought I should let you know all about The Trews concert before Monday.
IT WAS AWESOME!
Was it better than Jimmy? No, just different. We, those of us who attended both concerts, agreed that Jimmy was better musically, but The Trews won on the showmanship.
Every song totally rocked, and it seemed like every song was bigger and even better than the last. By the end of the concert, I am pretty sure we all had to check to see if our faces had melted from all the rock and roll we had heard.
Highlights:
1. Tired of Waiting. Yes, I already love this song, whether it is the angrier version found on their House Of Ill Fame album, to the sad and slow acoustic version I found my for yearly CD this year. But the reggae influenced version from the concert was amazing! They threw in a bit of The Stones "You Can Always Get What You Want" in the middle, which added so much to the already wonderful song.
2. Kicks, Jumps and Backwards Playing.I am pretty sure that each member of the band drank a case of Redbull before coming on stage. The energy they had seemed to fuel the crowd even more. They were full of the stereotypical moves you would expect to find some ‘80s hairband concert. In this new world of Emo-ness, it was fun to see people rocking out again.
3. Small Venue.I realized last night that venue makes a huge difference to the enjoyment of the concert, and maybe a smaller concert is better than any arena concert. The concert was held at ‘The Zoo’ the U of L campus bar. The sound was louder, the band closer, the crowd devoted.
Lowlights:
1. I Missed Travis.Even though he was pretty sulky at Jimmy (Just admit it, it was true) having only the Trifecta of Awesome together made me realize our dream of the Fantastic Four might be gone for good. Plus I missed Keely, Matt and Jen. (They were fun at Jimmy.)
2. The Opening Band. Not as horrible as the mess of a band that played at Jimmy, just long. I didn’t pay good money to hear them play their ENTIRE repertoire. Serotonin would have been a much better opening band. (Maybe it is time for a reunion concert? It has been too long since I heard “Heat” live.)
3. Beer.As to be expected at a concert held in a bar, I am pretty sure we were the only people not drinking at the concert. For the most part people were okay with the alcohol, well, except those people who thought it would be a good idea to crowd surf with a can of beer in hand, and in the process drop half the can right on me!
All in all, we had a great time, even with the motley crew that we assembled to attend, Flick with her cold, my general malaise and Jenny’s bell’s palsy, lyme disease, rickets and/or shingles. Today we all noticed significant hearing loss. My above average hearing has now diminished into just average, but I think it was worth it.
Congrats to:
Flick, for her new concert boyfriend.
The guy standing next to me, who showed me the text he had received that read: “I could never just stop loving you.” Good to see there is love, even at a rock concert.
The Trews for putting on one amazing show!
As Always,
