You Can't Be Mad Forever, Can You?

Okay, I guess I am crossing the line. How many of you bet that I wouldn’t be able to go a week with a blog entry? Seriously, I couldn’t even go a day. I guess I am not as stubborn as I think I am.

But to be honest, you all missed some great and exciting stories during my little vacation.

First of all, Monday was another classic example of how my office is stuck in not only the 20th Century, but even back in the 19th Century. We finally got our first Interac machine at the office. But the worst part came as we had to attend an 1 ½ hour training meeting on how to work the machine. Because there were too many people in the office to all crowd around our small machine for the demonstration, we had to sign up for which session we would like to attend. (I know, this is already too much.) Well, lucky for me, the Interac machine is right outside of my office, so I got the presentation twice.

So at the exciting presentation, we all got to practise swiping a debit card and keying in the purchase amount. (One of the ladies put in $11.00 instead of $1.00, and I won’t even begin to explain the kafuffle that came from trying to correct that mistake.) And we all got to roll play being a customer, and pretending to do a transaction. It was pretty thrilling stuff.

One of my coworkers admitted that she had never used an Interac machine. I seriously couldn’t believe it. This is not new technology. We had an Interac machine at A&W when I worked there, way back in 1996. Eleven years later and you still haven’t used one?!? Where am I working? The black hole of technology?

Work seems to be the only aspect of my life where I am hanging on to a little bit of sanity these days. (Knock on wood.) And you are looking at the newest Commissioner for Oaths in and for the Province of Alberta.

What exactly does that entail, you might wonder. Well, after filling out a short form, reading an uninteresting pamphlet, and oral examination by our favourite RDP, I am now able to witness people swearing or affirming documents to be true. Exciting, I know.

This a special title, reserved for MPs, MLAs, Judges, Lawyers, Police Officers and pretty much anyone who wants to pay $50.00 for the same title.

But title comes with a certificate and a stamp!

Well, that seems to be all for right now.

Thinking it has been a long week
Let’s call a ceasefire?

Good Luck. God Speed.
